Coach Levos' coaching purpose: As a coach I strive to better student athletes both on and off of the field of play through the promotion of clear communication, literacy, responsibility and self advocacy to better themselves and their communities.
What Should We Expect?
In terms of preparing for extracurricular school activities, it has been different. I always try to find opportunity in every challenge and there have been many opportunities leading up to the season.
Expect: this to be the best possible experience it can be for everyone involved. The important piece of that idea is the possibilities are not going to be the same as previous years. There are many factors that come into play to create new opportunities. Things such as; changes in transportation, student athletes trying something new, wellness protocols, game schedules and more, are all creating opportunities for growth beyond winning basketball games. So, what should we expect?
Expect: the purpose of having a season remains constant amid all of the unknown. To foster a growth mindset filled with skills needed to seek solutions to overcome “unprecedented” events that happen in life. Our purpose is to develop winners who can analyze an event and choose a response that will help them achieve the desired outcome. Winning soccer games is our goal, but our purpose is far greater. So, what should we expect?
Expect: everyone who shows up will be part of the team. That is not saying that everyone will necessarily “make” the team this year. What it says is that the presence of many who wish to be part of something bigger than themselves will push others to work harder to fill a role for the team. A player who may get “moved” may also be the player who challenged or inspired the player who did not get moved. That is an important role. It can be a hard one to accept, and even harder to understand its value (especially in the moment). Learning that role can also be a great opportunity to prepare us to see an event and choose a response. It is a role I had to learn in my own athletic experience. It is a role that became a formative part of who I have become. So, what should we expect?
Expect: if we have to move players, the task will not be taken lightly. I assure you another thing to expect is that your coaches will do the best we can to create an experience that values you regardless of your role.
